Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
On your behalf, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all teachers who have been busy writing reports over the past few weeks. We are lucky and blessed to have such a hard-working, committed and generous group of teachers at St Monica's. Parents will be able to access Semester 1 academic reports through Compass next Thursday 4 July at 3:30pm.
This semester, there are no comments on the reports and this is why we prioritised the Parent / Teacher meetings last week. I trust that these meetings provided every family, an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress, their strengths, what they find challenging and future areas of focus. While many parents and carers may share the results of the reports with their children; it is always important to remember that the grade a child receives, is one very small part of who they are as a person. Use the report as a way of talking about the importance of education with your child and as a celebration of the areas they have shown success or improvement.
A reminder that the A-E scale is very different to what it looked like years ago. Our Kindergarten students will receive an alternative scale to A-E as outlined below. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with the guidelines for assessment and reporting.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day
Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. St Monica’s Primary school, along with St Michael’s Primary Kaleen, are a part of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the better-known titles of Mary, the Mother of God, especially among the most needy and afflicted who feel the need for love and protection. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is known for her miracles and answers to prayer. At St Monica’s we began our feast day with a liturgy led by our Faith and Justice leaders and supported by our choir. During our liturgy we focused on Mary’s trust, obedience and resilience and that we can always ask Mary for help in our times of need. We followed our liturgy with a shared feast and activities with our buddy class.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Today we launched our St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal with the establishment of a Dignity Donation Station. Next Thursday students can wear their winter woollies or oodies in return for donating to our Dignity Donation Station. Students can donate any of the listed items to help people in our community in need. This newly established Dignity Donation Station will also be an ongoing place where families can support the vulnerable throughout the year.

Safeguarding Our Students - Maggie Lloyd
Safeguarding Our Students
The safeguarding of our students is the top priority of our schools and the Catholic Education Office. Safeguarding is a term used to describe the protection of and human rights of vulnerable people. This may be due to their age, culture or trauma background, or they may be at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation. Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn is committed to complying with Child Safe Standards. We have been working with our schools to meet these requirements.
Our Commitment to Every Student
Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn is committed to keeping children safe in all schools. We have adopted the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Child Safeguarding Commitment, which states:

School Student Broadband Initiative
School Student Broadband Initiative - Free internet until December 2025
To find out more call: 1800 954 610 (10am – 6pm AEDT Monday to Friday) or visit https://www.anglicarevic.org.au/student-internet/
The Australian Government has announced that they are extending the School Student Broadband Initiative until 31 December 2025. The extension means that the SSBI nomination period will remain open until 31 December 2024 with free National Broadband Network (nbn) internet service for all new and existing families on the SSBI until 31 December 2025. For existing SSBI families who have already signed up, this means their SSBI service will automatically be extended until 31 December 2025 (no further eligibility checks will be required). For eligible families who connect before the end of this year, they will get up to two years of free nbn broadband.
How can the School Student Broadband Initiative help your child? - Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities. Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and participate in a world that is more dependent on digital technology.
Is my family eligible for the School Student Broadband Initiative?
To be eligible, families must:
Have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school (up to year 12 including Prep in Qld/Vic/Tas, Kindergarten in ACT/NSW, Reception in SA, Transition in NT and Pre-Primary in WA).
Not have an active National Broadband Network (nbn®) Internet service at home. Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility.
Live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network via a standard connection – this will be checked for you.
Not have had an active nbn connection during the previous 14 days.
