Technologies
Technology is an integral component of education at St Monica’s. This component of student learning focuses on how to use a range of technology to support their thinking, learning and communication. Technology broadly encompasses digital communication systems, including computers, iPads, associated peripherals devices and software.
An Interactive Whiteboard and several laptops, with internet access, are located in each classroom. Classes also have access to banks of laptops and iPads located in various trolleys around the school. Currently, Years 4 to 6 are part of the St Monica's BYODD (Bring your own designated device) program.
Technology is integrated within the school curriculum. Children and teachers have access to software programs and computer hardware including digital cameras, printers, scanners and a digital video camera.
Buying an iPad
St Monica’s does not recommend a store from which to purchase your device. However, some things to consider when purchasing an iPad are:
- Be aware of the warranty conditions of the product and the store in which you are purchasing from e.g. what is the process if the iPad needs a screen replaced? Will you be without an iPad for a period of time?
- The Apple Care and Protection Plan (which is available for a fee of approximately $106) gives you access to expert technical support and additional hardware coverage for your iPad. This is something to consider purchasing with your iPad.
- There are many places where you can purchase iPads so it will be up to families to negotiate with stores to get a deal that suits them and warranty terms and conditions they are happy with.
The Apple Store
Due to the school purchasing through Apple at the Canberra Centre, Apple offers special iPad and Mac pricing for students attending our school. This special pricing is available for purchases made at Apple Stores, through our school’s customised online store or via the Apple contact centre. If you are purchasing in-store or over the phone just let the Specialist know our school’s name. Finance options are also available for purchases if you are purchasing at an Apple Store or online.
Refer to the Apple Purchasing Portal created for St Monica’s via the online link below to purchase the Apple solution we’ve selected for your student’s use in the classroom. The custom page ensures that you’re buying the device your student needs, and it offers all the same great features of the regular Apple Online Store, like free delivery. Families can also visit an Apple Store, or call 133-622 to purchase through our contact centre. To find your local Apple store visit www.apple.com/au/retail.

Learning and support
The Apple Store is a great place to learn about, try and buy Apple products for education. Apple Specialists are on hand to help you and your student get to know your new Apple device, and with Personal Setup they can help get new devices up and running before you leave the store.
You and your students can join one of the daily in-store workshops to learn a new skill, and your student can get learning and creating at one of the Apple Camp or Field Trip events. Visit www.apple.com/au/retail to find an Apple Store near you and view the schedule.
Apple can also provide support with everything related to your new Apple purchase — from using iPad to troubleshooting iTunes. You can get support by phone, email or online chat or set up a repair or Genius Bar reservation at getsupport.apple.com.
