Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
As we approach the end of a mammoth term, I wish to reflect on the the many achievements and highlights that have shaped our community. It has been a remarkable journey of growth, learning, and shared experiences, and I couldn't be a prouder leader of this amazing school. Over the past 10 weeks the school has celebrated a range of events and activities, here's a short re-cap of the wonderful things that have happened this term...
- We underwent a very successful School Improvement Compliance and Registration process
- 40+ students have been enrolled into our 2024 Kindergarten Cohort
- We celebrated the important women in our lives with a Mother's Day breakfast and gift stall
- Everyone scrubbed up and looked their best for school photos
- We acknowledged ANZAC Day, Easter, Pentecost and First Eucharist through beautiful Whole School Prayer celebrations
- Our Year 4s celebrated their First Eucahrist!
- There was a great turn out at the Evatt shops for our Walk Safely to School day and our choir attended the Big Sing at Mother Teresa school Harrison
- We acknowledged Reconciliation Day with activities and a visit from CECG Indigenous Inclusion Officer Katrina Cambridge
- We were well represented at a number of Sports Gala Days and one of our Chess Teams came 3rd at the local championships
- We were blessed with beautiful days and amazing parent support for the school's Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals
- New shelving was installed in the library and Decodable readers were purchased to compliment the teaching of reading across all classrooms
- Seedling boxes were installed and the vegie patch was weeded and prepared to grow fresh produce
- The Book Fair was well supported.. lots of new holiday reads for many!
- Semester One Reports were sent home and Parent / Teacher interviews took place
It's no wonder everyone is a bit tired and ready for a break! Having said that, I am in awe of the student's behaviour and willingness to learn right up until the end of term. Parents, you should be very proud of your children who have very clearly worked hard socially, emotionally and academically this term and demonstrated the Footstep of Resilience.
As we bid farewell to this term, we eagerly anticipate the adventures and opportunities that the upcoming term will bring. We will continue to provide an enriching and supportive learning environment where our students can thrive, explore their passions, and unlock their full potential.
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude the St Monica's staff for their unwavering support and commitment to your children and the school's mission. It is through their dedication and committment we have such a vibrant educational community that embodies excellence, resilience, and a spirit of collaboration.
A reminder that students return to school, in winter uniform, on Tuesday 18 July. Monday 17 July is a Pupil Free Day and TeamKids is available to all families on this day. Wishing you all a rejuvenating and enjoyable break. May the upcoming term be filled with new discoveries, personal growth, and remarkable achievements.
Peace and blessings to all families,
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day Celebrations
On Tuesday, 27 June, we celebrated the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day as a Parish community. Students at both schools participated in a liturgy which celebrated Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, our Heavenly Mother. We listened to the gospel, sang songs of praise, reflected on what Mary means to us and offered prayers to Mary.
Activities in classes were focused on learning about the Our Lady of Perpetual Help icon. The students observed the different colours and symbols in the icon, noting how Jesus is comforted in His mother’s arms. Students learned that like Jesus, they can have confidence in turning to Mary with their troubles. They wrote their own personal prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The 3-6 students used the icon to pray the Visio Divina, a prayer in which we allow the image to speak to our heart. Students also participated in a prayer scavenger hunt and recited prayers including our school prayers, the Our Father and the Hail Mary. It was a wonderful, community day which assisted to deepen the students’ knowledge of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Special thanks to all the staff from both St Michael’s and St Monica’s for your extra efforts in making this day so special.
