Dear St Monica's families and friends,
We wait in Joyful Hope ‘This is the season of watchful waiting. We prepare our hearts to celebrate Jesus’ first coming, and we look ahead to his return in glory. As each Sunday liturgy proclaims, “We wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.” But waiting isn’t just a spiritual discipline that we practice during certain liturgical seasons. It’s an inescapable part of life. Traffic is slow. Dinner is late. A work project drags on. There are whole periods that have a waiting flavour—pregnancy, engagement, unemployment, illness.
What would it mean to adopt an Advent attitude in these waiting times in family life? What if we learned to wait with joyful hope, certain that the Lord is in them to work out his loving plan for us and those we love? What if we invited him into our waiting, gave it to him, and then kept watch for signs of his activity?
It’s true that waiting is not made easier by the fact that we all crave speed. We like fast foods, overnight delivery, instant messaging. And yet we know from experience that it takes slow maturing to produce anything of value, whether it’s a baby, a friendship, a work of art, a beautiful garden.’

School Fees: Today you will have received, via Compass, information regarding our 2023 School Fees. Despite the disruptions wrought by the Covid pandemic we have appreciated families meeting their financial obligations in 2022 to ensure our school continues to thrive.
We are very mindful of the impacts any fee increase incurs on families and have therefore carefully considered what would be most appropriate for the year ahead. We are committed to our policy in the Archdiocese that no student should be refused enrolment, excluded, or disadvantaged because of their inability to afford the fees.
If you have any questions regarding school fees for 2023, please contact me or Kirra Thompson (Finance Manager).

Second Week of Advent
Did you know that the word “Advent” comes from the Latin word adventus which means ‘coming’. In the 4th and 5th centuries Advent was a time of preparation for the Baptism of new Christians. But over time Advent was connected to the coming of Christ. Today we celebrate Advent over the four weeks leading up to Christmas each year. During the four weeks we take up the invitation to take our minds off the stress of the year. It’s a chance to focus our thoughts on the Gift God has given us, Jesus!
This coming Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent. The focus is on ‘Peace’. Here is a prayer your family might like to say to begin the second week together:
God of Peace,
Instill in us Your peace,
That surpasses all understanding.
As we prepare for His coming,
Make us instruments of Your peace
And help us to find rest in the Prince of Peace,
Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Library News - Veronica Melville
End of Year Book Returns
The end of the year is fast approaching and we will be doing a stocktake of the library collection. To assist with this we need to have all library books back on to the shelves by Monday 5 December. Students are now unable to borrow from the library and all books are now due back. I will email overdue notices on Friday 2 December. Thank you for your support in ensuring the library is ready for 2023.
Basketball
Congratulations to Arabella A (5H) who has been selected for the ACT Basketball U12s Development Squad for 2023. Her home team is Ginninderra Rats. Well done Arabella!
As the term winds down the canteen seems to get busier. I am so glad that we can provide a great service for busy families and I am hearing lots of reports of children enjoying the food. I am, as always, so grateful for my wonderful team of dedicated volunteers. Over the last few weeks I have had many of my regulars working hard and keeping spirits up. Thank you all for your time, hard work and sense of humour. Last week we welcomed some wonderful new volunteers, so grateful for your service Shannon Nott, Nicholas Hogan, Letitia, Brooke and Eliza.
Thank you for the kind donations of utensils from Woolworths. Metal teaspoons and forks are a precious commodity in the canteen. It would be appreciated if you have any spare Woolworths points and don’t need them for yourself if you could gift to the canteen.
The last day of canteen is Friday 9 December 2022. This allows for a thorough clean in Week 10. I expect it will be a busy week, with extra orders, Christmas Carols (cool drinks and treats available for cash sales only) on Thursday 8 December 2022 and special treats on Friday 9 December 2022. The marketplace is also open for Juice Bomb sales for the holidays. Delivery or pick up will be Wednesday 14 December 2022 and the cut off to order is Tuesday 13 December 2022 at 3pm. If anyone wants a birthday order for their child please get this in by Thursday 8 December 2022. I can then provide the included lunch and I will be able to have the ice blocks on hand for the last week if required.
As it is such a busy time, volunteers are welcome - even an hour of your time adds great value in this space. I am looking for volunteers on the Thursday and Friday (I would love to attend the Year 6 assembly). I have opened up the Wednesday for some baking too. Please just complete the following link so that I can manage my workload appropriately.
If you have any queries please email me - wendy.regan@cg.catholic.edu.au
If you are interested in purchasing some Pure Flow Hive Honey from Young NSW pop in to the Front Office and chat to Kirra. 1Kg Tub is $15. Plenty available, get ready to honey glaze your ham for Christmas.
