Dear St Monica's families and friends,
There is rarely a week at school that isn’t full of activity! That’s what being part of a vibrant school community is all about. Last week we celebrated our love of literature with the Book week celebrations and this week we have celebrated our Patron Saint, Saint Monica.
Book Week - I wish to publically thank Veronica Melville for her exceptional organisation, planning and preparation for Book Week. Two author visits, a street library launch, Australian libraries day and of course the parade. No doubt a number of you read the Canberra Times over the weekend and watched the video attached to the article. If you haven't been able to source a copy of this please let me know and I can share it with you.
Feast Day Celebrations - I would also like to thank Haley Stonham for her extraordinary organisation of the Feast Day celebrations for our school. Our Whole School Liturgy was beautiful and the children were very engaged. The Talent Show was a hit, the Silent Disco (including disco attire) was off the charts and the Trivia was a lot of fun.
Father’s Day - Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads and important men in our lives. Join us for the 'Greatest Kick' competition tomorrow morning and have a great day on Sunday!
Peace and Blessings to all families,
Happy Birthday to the following students celebrating a Birthday this week
Robin C-O, Lyndon H, Felix R, Lachlan T, Indiana H
St Monica’s Feast Day Celebrations
What a fun week it has been celebrating the feast of St Monica! Here are some photos of our week so far…
Confirmation
Our Year 6 Students used their footstep of engagement yesterday to explore what being led by the Holy Spirit means. They explored Acts 2 – The Coming of the Holy Spirit using the 3 Worlds of the Text, reflected on what they have learned in some hands on rotations, discussed the topic with Fr Loi and, of course, enjoyed some ‘retreat’ pizza!
Candidates then spent the afternoon reading their Sponsor Letters in the warmth of the sun – opening their hearts to this most wonderful Holy Spirit moment.
Thank you for all your prayers and support in making this week a very special week for everyone! It has been so great to celebrate together!
St Monica, Pray for us!

CBCA Shadow Judging
Our Shadow Judges last week finished their creative responses to the 6 Shortlisted Picture Book for 2022 and these have been posted on the CBCA Sun Project Shadow Judging website. If you would like to see the students work and that of other shadow judges around Australia they can be seen at https://shadowjudging.cbca.org.au
The students selected Iceberg as the winning book after much debate and looking at the selection criteria. It was selected as the official winner but not voted the winner by the shadow judges. The students have learnt a lot through the process about what makes a good book and are keen to support next year’s Shadow Judges.
Issue 6 of Scholastic Book Club for 2022 was sent home last week. This is a fantastic way to build your child’s/ children’s personal library and love of reading. All purchases support the school library with the library receiving a percentage of the sales to purchase books for the library. Orders need to be placed by Monday 12 September.
It is easy to order. All orders are placed using Book Club LOOP platform which allows parents to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
A big congratulations to the children who played in the Sullivan Shield at Southwell Park on Tuesday. The children showed excellent teamwork, skills and sportsmanship. From their 4 games played they won 2, lost 1 and had a draw.
Thank you to Mick O'Connor for coaching on the day and Matt Brown for being First Aid Officer.
