Principal's Message

Dear St Monica's families and friends,

Rest_relax_recharge.jpg
Sabbath Week - For a Sabbath Week it has been fairly busy! Sabbath Week in schools is often spoken of as the “Week off Homework” and whilst this is an important part of the week is it not the only component. Sabbath Week is a time for families to rest, recuperate and re-energise. There are no meetings scheduled for the teachers, it’s an opportunity to make things a little low key for the week, a time for reflection, to leave work that little bit earlier and enjoy time with family.

There is rarely a week at school that isn’t full of activity! That’s what being part of a vibrant school community is all about. Last week we celebrated our love of literature with the Book week celebrations and this week we have celebrated our Patron Saint, Saint Monica.

Book Week - I wish to publically thank Veronica Melville for her exceptional organisation, planning and preparation for Book Week. Two author visits, a street library launch, Australian libraries day and of course the parade. No doubt a number of you read the Canberra Times over the weekend and watched the video attached to the article. If you haven't been able to source a copy of this please let me know and I can share it with you.

Feast Day Celebrations - I would also like to thank Haley Stonham for her extraordinary organisation of the Feast Day celebrations for our school. Our Whole School Liturgy was beautiful and the children were very engaged. The Talent Show was a hit, the Silent Disco (including disco attire) was off the charts and the Trivia was a lot of fun.

Father’s Day - Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads and important men in our lives. Join us for the 'Greatest Kick' competition tomorrow morning and have a great day on Sunday!
