Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
God of love,
We thank you for our wonderful grandparents. They bring such joy and happiness into our lives. Thank you for all the special times that we have with them.
Please watch over them, protect them and care for them now.
May they know your goodness and love always.
Amen
Grandparents fill an irreplaceable role in a child’s development. They are pillars of wisdom and sources of support, they possess a unique understanding of a family’s history and traditions. They love their grandchildren with unconditional affection that matches that of a child’s own parents, and though some families are separated by distance or circumstance, being able to connect with a grandchild frequently fosters a relationship that can influence a child to define values, flourish in self-confidence and strengthen the bonds of family.
Grandparent's and Special Friends Day - We are looking forward to welcoming Grandparents and Special visitors to our school tomorrow. The classrooms will be open to Grandparents from 9.15am. Following classroom visits we invite all grandparents up to the Hall for a special performance by the School Choir and Morning Tea. We are so excited to welcome these special visitors to our school.
School Council News – Due to the resignations and term of membership expiring for some of our current sitting members, nominations to be a member of the St Monica’s School Community Council Executive are now open. Sitting members of the council contribute to the school through their interest, expertise, advice and commitment to the development of the school. While all parents in our school community are automatically part of the broader council, the council executive is the key body responsible for leading Council activities and providing advice and support to myself and the Leadership Team. I know that a number of parents are keen to support the school, but struggle making it to meetings or think they shouldn’t be on the Council because ‘that’s for other people in the school’. Please consider nominating for the council by filling in the form below and returning it to me no later than Monday 25 November.
Parents are invited to join your child when we attend our parish mass on Wednesday with our buddy class. Look at the timetable below to see when their class is rostered on this term.
Last Friday Father Mick celebrated his 70th Birthday. Our school children sang Happy Birthday to him in the church after the Whole School Prayer led by 4 Maroon and presented him with a finger lime plant. The celebrations continued on Saturday night when our parish surprised him with a party in our school hall after mass. Throughout the celebrations Father Mick mentioned a few times how our community is his family. We are so blessed to have Father Mick lead our parish. He constantly goes above and beyond in meeting families where they are at. If you have been wanting to know more about becoming a Catholic or being more involved in our parish give Father Mick a call.

Socktober
Our Silly Sock Day raised $410.50 for Catholic Mission. This year we raised awareness and funds for the Caring Center in Mongolia. The Caring Center provides a home for Otgonbayar and his friends who have nowhere else to call home.

Readers Cup
On Friday 25 October we hosted the CBCA ACT Readers Cup. There were 41 teams from across 17 Canberra schools competing in the competition. The students had spent the last seven weeks reading 5 novels and had to answer 10 quiz questions on each book. We had 3 teams participating. They have had a great time over the last few weeks reading the books and quizzing one another about the books. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork in the lead up to the quiz and at the quiz and can be very proud of their achievements. Our teams finished 14th, 20th and 23rd. Well done to all the students for their achievement.
