Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
This week we celebrated our incredible school patron, St Monica. We began the day with a Mass in her honour and sincerely thank Fr Mick for presiding the Mass.
Upon our return to school, all classes headed out on to the track for our annual walk-a-thon! Huge thanks to Mrs Lloyd, Ms Larkins and Mrs Friend for making sure the track was safe, to all of our parent volunteers and Team Kids crew who manned the checkpoints, walked with our students and handed out the ice blocks!
The afternoon was an absolute hit with the surprise of a Silent Disco, whether you were dancing away to the orange or purple song list, it was smiles all round on the hall floor…. including the adults. I am amazed the students love and know all the words to so many songs from decades ago!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
Loving God,
We pray for all of our amazing dads, father figures and those in our community who step into the role of dad, to care and support our beautiful children. May they reflect your grace and guidance in their journey of raising and nurturing their children.
We pray for those who mourn the loss of their dad, particularly at this time. Surround them with your peace as we continue to comfort them with our love and strength.
Amen.
This weekend we are celebrating all dads and important male role models in our lives. Join us tomorrow morning, in the courtyard, for a free donut and coffee whilst we wait to have the annual “Footy Kick off” event. We will have cool dad tunes pumping and some sweet dad jokes to take you into the weekend laughing. Throughout the day students will have an opportunity to purchase a special something for dad at the Father's Day stall.
School Musical – As you would be aware preparations and rehearsals for our musical ‘Somewhere between here there and everywhere’ are in full swing. It is about this time in a production, where we are thinking, “oh my, are we going to be ready” “It’s in exactly 2 weeks” “we haven’t even had a start to finish rehearsal yet” But….. everything is coming together and I send a very special thanks to Mrs Pearson who has been instrumental in directing and producing this amazing event ready for showtime in Week 8. Bookings are now live on trybooking.com. Please refer to the Compass alert and information below in today’s newsletter.
BABY NEWS!!! Congratulations to big sister Frankie in KW and family, on the arrival of their baby brother and son Benny!

CBCA Sun Project Shadow Judging
A group of 9 students from Year 4 have been meeting for the last few months to assist the Children’s Book Council of Australia with their Shadow Judging project. There were 270 groups of children across Australia judging the different categories in the Book of the Year Awards. The students at St Monica’s looked at the shortlisted books in the “Early Childhood” category and submitted their vote on which book they thought should be the winner. They also needed to create a response to the books in the category.
The students were invited to the CBCA ACT branch announcement of the Book of the Year event at the National Library. The students watched the announcement of the winners of the Book of the Year and the Shadow Judges choice. They then had the chance to share their responses to the books and the responses of other schools here in the ACT.
Well Done, Seb, Alexa, Atilio, Adele, Lexi, Jamie, Liam, Angelo and Emerson.
Here are their Creative Responses
Aura Parker will be visiting tomorrow and working with K - Year 3. Book Cow has copies of her books and you can order them online. The books will be signed by Aura Parker and delivered to the school. Students make special connections with books when they meet the author and purchasing the book is a great way to celebrate and remember the connection.

Yesterday we celebrated the special people in our life. We made a portrait artwork of them using collage, built their face onto biscuits and pretended to shave their faces using balloons and shaving cream. We discussed all the fun things we love about them and the great things we do together and discovered that our special people are pretty amazing! Next week we will be welcoming Spring by planting seeds and punnets and making flower potions. We hope to see you there.
We are now accepting enrolments for Semester 2 in all year levels. Do you know of someone who is considering a transfer across to St Monica’s but they are worried they have left it too late to enrol or about how their child will transition to a new school? Please encourage them to make an appointment with me and reassure them that the St Monica’s community is comprised of families and teachers who genuinely care for one another and it is a place where you will instantly feel like you belong.
School Student Broadband Initiative
School Student Broadband Initiative - Free internet until December 2025
To find out more call: 1800 954 610 (10am – 6pm AEDT Monday to Friday) or visit https://www.anglicarevic.org.au/student-internet/
The Australian Government has announced that they are extending the School Student Broadband Initiative until 31 December 2025. The extension means that the SSBI nomination period will remain open until 31 December 2024 with free National Broadband Network (nbn) internet service for all new and existing families on the SSBI until 31 December 2025. For existing SSBI families who have already signed up, this means their SSBI service will automatically be extended until 31 December 2025 (no further eligibility checks will be required). For eligible families who connect before the end of this year, they will get up to two years of free nbn broadband.
How can the School Student Broadband Initiative help your child? - Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities. Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and participate in a world that is more dependent on digital technology.
Is my family eligible for the School Student Broadband Initiative?
To be eligible, families must:
Have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school (up to year 12 including Prep in Qld/Vic/Tas, Kindergarten in ACT/NSW, Reception in SA, Transition in NT and Pre-Primary in WA).
Not have an active National Broadband Network (nbn®) Internet service at home. Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility.
Live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network via a standard connection – this will be checked for you.
Not have had an active nbn connection during the previous 14 days.
