Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
Math Olympiad and Math Explorer Challenge - Today I have been fortunate to supervise the students participating in their 2nd Math Olympiad and Math Explorer Challenge. Their thirst for wanting to extend and challenge themselves in Mathematics is truly commendable. The questions are by no means easy, could you answer this Math problem in less than 5minutes?
Ryan, Lisa and Maggie share a locker. Ryan says that the locker code is a 2-digit number. Lisa says that the locker code is divisible by 9. Maggie says that the locker code has 9 factors. What is the locker code?

Ante in Year 6 had a very special event on 28May when he received the Sacrament of Confirmation in St Joseph’s parish. I’m told it was a beautiful celebration and it’s always lovely to see our Archbishop in his special finery! Congratulations Ante.
RE Curriculum at St Monica’s
Prayer is explicitly taught, as well as experienced, at St Monica’s. Children are exposed to many varieties of prayer over their years at school and explicitly taught different prayers across their time in their Catholic school. Below is a table outlining the prayer experiences for each year level. I invite you to consider spending time in prayer with your children this coming week, accessing from their age appropriate prayers.

Term Two Value Focus – Resilience
Thank you 3 Blue for your beautiful Whole School Prayer last Friday. What a lovely way to reflect on our focus value for this term, resilience through the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. You gave us great examples and thoughts about how to bounce back when things don’t quite work as we hoped and use our footsteps as a guide.
Week 8 - Eucharist
Tomorrow Year 4 will lead the whole school in prayer. They will be specially focusing on Eucharist and the special celebration for many of the Year 4 students this weekend as they celebrate their First Holy Communion. You are all invited to join the whole school in prayer at the St Monica’s Church from 9.10am onwards.
First Holy Communion
We keep in our prayers these Year Four children as they prepare to receive Jesus this weekend for the first time in Holy Communion -

Home booklets
Home booklets should be returned to the school (with the last page ‘Parents’ Discernment of Readiness’ completed) by Thursday this week - the booklets will be signed and stamped with the ‘parish stamp’ and returned to the candidates at their First Eucharist celebration.
Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on 5, 6 and 7 September 2023. Registrations will open on Monday 26 June 2023 via the parish Qkr! App. Please start to consider the 'Saint's Name' and 'Sponsor' as these are requirements on the registration form. The Sponsor should be a baptised Catholic and not a parent. The role of the Sponsor should be someone who has an influence in the child's life and can fill in the gaps where the parent is unable to.
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated in Term 1, 2024.
For further Information – please contact the Sacramental Program Coordinator at sc.belconnennorth@cg.org.au or check the parish website at www.cg.org.au/belconnennorth

Library News - Veronica Melville
Next Thursday we welcome Lamont Book Fairs to St Monica's. This is a Melbourne-based company that will provide us with a different selection of books from previous book fairs. All sales at the book fair support the purchase of new books for the library collection. We have extended opening hours from 8am - 9am and 3.15pm - 5pm each day. The book fair starts on Thursday 22 June and goes through until Wednesday 28 June. We look forward to seeing you in the library getting some great holiday reads.
Over the past few weeks I have been concerned about the declining volunteer numbers in the canteen. I have put the call out to the community via COMPASS and have been excited to welcome many new volunteers. Thank you to all the following people, your time and efforts are appreciated - Sarah Clark, Tracy D'Ambrosio, Katarina Pilatic, Megan Rhind, Elisha Scholtes, Danielle Weber, Sam Gonzalez, Ling Fei, Sharon Friend, Kirra Thompson, Chris Regan, Jane Rabbets, Bek Stevenson, Angalea Turnbull, Sonia Connolly, Kim Todd, Hayley Thomas, Fiona Steinberg, Rachael Prior, Rach Pentes, Tim Porter and Katrina Ciampa.
I will now advertise volunteering vacancies via COMPASS, but you are free to sign up on the link below, for any time that you want to volunteer. Volunteer power keeps our prices low and keeps our community vibe alive. The jobs are easy and even half an hour of your time is very valuable. We do have vacancies for all day on Friday. All you need is a current WWVP card.
We try to keep waste to a minimum in canteen, we also like our students to receive their orders. If your child is sick you have a number of options. You can cancel the order on Qkr! (if it is prior to cut-off time of 8.45am) and you will have a credit to use in the future. You can send me an email in the morning - wendy.regan@cg.catholic.edu.au. I can then save the order for the next week. Also, if you have to pick up your child early, we can give them the order to go, just let the front office know your child has a lunch order.
If food is sent out to the classroom it will go to waste. I am not able to refund on a product that I have delivered.
Further to this, please let your child know that if they miss out on something in their lunch order to come and let me know. I want to ensure that every child gets the order that has been purchased for them. The canteen is very busy and sometimes we inadvertently miss or mix up products, we are always happy to fix this situation.
