Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
Happy Sabbath Week! It has been a very eventful time for the St Monica’s community over the past few weeks and there is still more excitement to come! Coming up in the next few weeks is the celebration of the Sacrament of Eucharist, Interviews, Reports and then finally the end of term. I hope that all families enjoy the Sovereign’s Birthday Long Weekend, that one extra day together to be with family and friends!
Last chance!! Tell Them From Me Survey. Only 10% of our families have accessed the survey. The survey will take less than 20 minutes to complete. The survey link and instructions have been sent out via Compass. Your chance to have your say closes tomorrow Friday 9 June.
We are looking forward to meeting with families for the Parent Teacher Interviews next week. These meetings are an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s development at school. By meeting with your child’s classroom teacher you are showing that you are a partner in their learning and interested in their life at school. Prepare for these interviews by thinking about areas of your child’s progress and development you would like to discuss. Your child’s classroom teacher will have information about how they are progressing in Key Learning Areas as well as how they are developing socially and emotionally. If you haven’t booked an interview time please do so by 3pm tomorrow afternoon.
Peace and blessings to all families,
Grayson A, Evelyn D, Akol A, Lochlan M
RE Curriculum
Religious Life of St Monica’s
Focus on Year Four
Students in Year Four have been learning about the world and culture in which Jesus lived. They have mapped places mentioned in the bible and are developing an understanding of different celebrations the Jewish community experienced in the time of Jesus. They really enjoyed learning about bar mitzvahs! What places do you remember from the bible stories? Can you find them on the map?
Whole School Prayer Time
Term Two Value Focus – Resilience
Tomorrow, Friday 9 June, Year 3 Blue will lead the whole school in prayer, focusing on our Term Two value, Resilience. Resilience helps us every day to bounce back and deal with challenges in life. It incorporates, but is not limited to, the growth mindset learned about at school. It is about helping our children develop strategies to deal with little disappointments in life to help build the mental ‘muscles’ that helps us bounce back when life presents us with bigger challenges. It is about us as adults modelling these behaviours as well. You’re invited to join the whole school in praying up in St Monica’s Church from 9.10am onwards.
Week 8 - Eucharist
Next Friday, 16 June, Year 4 will lead the whole school in prayer. They will be specially focusing on Eucharist and the special celebration for many of the Year 4 students the following weekend as they celebrate their First Holy Communion. You are all invited to join the whole school in prayer at the St Monica’s Church from 9.10am onwards.
Eucharist Retreat
Students in Year 4 are enjoying a retreat day today, focusing on Eucharist. This retreat particularly supports those Year 4 students about to receive Eucharist in their First Holy Communion but also aims to develop all students’ understanding of what Eucharist is and how we live as Eucharistic people.
Eucharist Parent/Child Formation Session
I look forward to seeing online this evening all the families and children preparing to make their First Holy Communion. Our Parent/Child session will begin at 6.00pm promptly and will be concluded by 7.00pm. Children will have something to share from today’s retreat.

Home booklets
Home booklets should then be returned to the school (with the last page ‘Parents’ Discernment of Readiness’ completed) following the evening and no later than Wednesday 14 June – the booklets will be signed and stamped with the ‘parish stamp’ and returned to the candidates at their First Eucharist celebration.
Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on 5, 6 and 7 September 2023. Registrations will open on Monday 26 June 2023 via the parish Qkr! App. Please start to consider the 'Saint's Name' and 'Sponsor' as these are requirements on the registration form. The Sponsor should be a baptised Catholic and not a parent. The role of the Sponsor should be someone who has an influence in the child's life and can fill in the gaps where the parent is unable to.
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated in Term 1, 2024.
For further Information – please contact the Sacramental Program Coordinator at sc.belconnennorth@cg.org.au or check the parish website at www.cg.org.au/belconnennorth
