Dear St Monica's families and friends,
St Monica’s is a school where there is much to celebrate. We celebrate new babies, welcome new families to our school, we celebrate student achievement in all areas of school life and, in a few weeks’ time, we will celebrate the end of the school year through a number of events. What will make all these celebrations so fabulous, is that we are able to do this together as a whole school community again!
Archbishop Christopher Prowse has inaugurated 2022 - 2023 as a Year of Walking Together as an Archdiocese. Let us too, as the St Monica's School Community, walk together in Faith and in the footsteps of St Monica.
Staffing News – I am pleased to announce Mr Anthony O’Connell has been appointed Religious Education Coordinator from 2023. Anthony is currently the REC at Good Shepherd Primary School in Amaroo. He has extensive experience in this role and as a classroom teacher and he is very much looking forward to joining the St Monica’s school community.
Mrs Jacinda Vaughan has accepted a 12-month contract as a SoundsWrite trainer in 2023. This is an incredible opportunity for Jacinda, as she furthers her passion for the Science of Reading. Jacinda will be taking a year off to pursue this new career and we wish her every success in her new role.
Kindergarten Orientation – Next Tuesday we welcome our Kindergarten class of 2023. What an exciting opportunity for these little people as they transition from Pre-School to Primary School. It gives me great pleasure to announce Mrs Yvette Rosenfeld and Mrs Kirsty Godschalx as our Kindergarten Teachers for next year. Both teachers are looking forward to meeting our newest students and welcoming them to St Monica’s Primary School.
Class Placement Considerations for 2023 - Teachers are beginning to consider class groupings for 2023. Please trust that we know your children well and have a very good understanding of their academic, social and emotional needs. We endeavour to balance classes in a variety of ways and any parent requests regarding placement of children for 2023 must be sent to me in writing by 5.00pm on Monday 21st November.School Council Nominations – Vacancies have arisen for our School Community Council in 2023. Council members are appointed for a period of two years, during which time they attend two meetings per term. These meetings are an opportunity to hear about what is going on at the school and to participate in planning for the future. No special skills are required, although there are opportunities to join sub-committees focusing on the grounds, fundraising, catering and events! It is important that members of the council come across the school community, so that decisions reflect the interests of the whole school. Your voice is important, why not consider having your say by joining the Community Council in 2023.
Peace and blessings to all families,
Happy Birthday to the following students celebrating a Birthday this week
Alessandro S, Abigail N, Patrick I, Jack R, Tyler B, Zak Z, Charlotte C, Polly D, Niko M
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
It is that time of the year again where we are starting to think about Christmas and what the season has to offer us. As a Catholic school community, we also take the time to think about those within our community who need support this Christmas. In doing this, we are called to action through giving. St Monica’s, along with Catholic School’s in our Archdiocese, support the good works of the St Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
Our baskets have arrived and each Grade has been allocated a particular food item set, which is outlined below. Please note that all items must have a minimum expiry date of 3 months. We will begin collections from Week 4 and ask that all donations be brought in by the End of Week 8, Friday 2 December.
As a thank you for your generous donations, we will have a ‘Spirit of Christmas’ Christmas dress up day on Friday 2 December. More information to come!
