Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
It is the beginning of Term 3, it is still dark when we wake in the morning and it is very cold outside. After having 2 weeks holiday, where pyjama days are the norm & access to food has been continuous, I can imagine it may have been hard for some of our students (and perhaps adult members of our school community) to get out of bed this week. We have successfully completed the first half of the year and we now enter the second half!
Special Prayers
Please keep the Clark family (Ella - 1RC) in your prayers as her great grandmother passed away recently.
COVID19 update - Term 3 will see a number of our community events impacted, by the rising numbers of COVID19 in the ACT. I thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding that things may need to be postponed or cancelled, even at the very last minute. Measures such as limiting optional and extra-curricula activities, encouraging mask wearing, social distancing and good hygiene practices, have been put in place to ensure the health and well-being of our students, their families and our teachers remains our priority.
RAT kits continue to be available to families as required this term. Please contact the Front Office to request these.
New families to the school - We welcome the following families and students to St Monica’s from this week! We wish you a long and happy association with our community.
- Peacock Family – Ivy, sister of Maddie in Year 4, will be joining 2L
- Gowty Family – Ronan will be joining 2MD
- Hyslop Family – Bella will be joining 3CG
Warmest regards,
Lisa
Happy Birthday to the following students celebrating a Birthday this week
Jack R, Eamon F, Grace M, Milenna P, Iyin A
Saint of the Week
This term our Year 6 Confirmation candidates will be deepening their understanding of how the Holy Spirit is active in their lives. One way they will be exploring the amazing gifts the Holy Spirit has on offer, is by investigating saints. Through their investigation, they will be able to choose a saint whom they feel inspires the gifts of the Holy Spirit they want to enact as a confirmed adult in the Catholic Church.
Each week, I will be showcasing a ‘Saint of the Week’, to help families have a conversation about the important role the saint will have in their child’s life. The first saint is Saint Angela Merici.

Pop quiz - how heavy was Phar Laps heart?* Not as heavy as ours as we advise that the Rockstar Trivia Night scheduled for 5 August 2022 has been postponed due to the Covid 19 situation. The Brains Trust Trophy will just have to gather more dust this term as we ride out this tsunami size “third wave”. Silver linings - more time to brush up on all things trivial. A new date will be announced later in the term. So for now, keep well and safe and watch this space!
* for those who are interested it weighed 6.35kgs and can be seen at the National Museum of Australia (a fabulous place to visit!)
