Dear St Monica’s families and friends,
Enjoy this special time of Easter with your families and friends. If you are travelling please return to us safely, for those having a 'Staycation' enjoy hanging out in your pyjamas until lunchtime!! Relish and relax in the cool yet sunny Autumn weather that Canberra is blessed with.
Holy Week
One of the most anticipated times on the Church’s calendar is the resurrection of Jesus. In the lead up to this day, we are reminded of the suffering and sacrifice Jesus made for each of us when he shared the Last Supper with his friends, prayed in the garden on his own to finally walking the road to Calvary where he was crucified and died. Tomorrow our Year 6 classes will lead us through this sorrowful time, as they portray the Stations of the Cross. Whilst Good Friday is the saddest day on the Church’s calendar, it is important to remember that after the darkness there is light and each day is a brand new start for us all.

Holy Week at St Monica’s
Holy Week liturgies have begun with Year 3 and Kinder leading Palm Sunday. This was followed by a beautiful Last Supper Liturgy lead by Year 5 on Tuesday afternoon. Year 1 lead us through the Garden as Jesus and his disciples prayed together after their dinner. And this is where Jesus’ journey changes from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his persecution and eventual crucifixion on Good Friday. Year 6 will be leading the school as we walk with Jesus as he carries His cross. As a school, we will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on the first day back in Term 2. Year 4 will lead us in our great and most joyous of celebrations.
How will your family celebrate Jesus’ resurrection? My family will be staying home this year. On Good Friday we will go to The Stations of the Cross at 10am and we always have a seafood lunch and dinner. Then on Easter Sunday, we will wake up and see if the Easter Bunny has been, then get ready to go to mass to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. We always have a special roast lamb or pork for lunch to celebrate with our family! We may even eat too much chocolate ?
Here are the Holy Week mass times for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, which we belong. Fr. Loi would love to see you all there!
Weekly Tweet from Pope Francis
Today’s tweet from Pope Francis gives us strength to continue to do good in our last week of Lent. Keep going, we need strength to walk with Jesus next week during Holy Week.
