NAIDOC Week is celebrated each year in July to acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
NAIDOC Week’s theme for this year is Voice, Treaty and Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future.
As NAIDOC Week falls within the holidays this year St Monica’s will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in the first week of Term 3. Throughout the week we will be having multiple events occurring. On Monday 22 July we will be having a guest presenter visiting our school. Philip Green will be presenting a visual and tactile experience on traditional technologies used by Indigenous peoples across the varied environments of Australia.
Yr 3 – 4 will visit at 11:30am
Yr 5 – 6 will visit at 1:30pm
Later in the week a group of students who have Indigenous backgrounds have been invited to attend a NAIDOC Mass organised by Catholic Education, Canberra & Goulburn.
