 What is anxiety?

Anxiety is more than feeling stressed or worried. It can be tough to cope, but with the right support things can get better.

Anxiety is something that we all experience from time to time. Sometimes anxiety can help us perform better by helping us feel alert and motivated. The experience of anxiety is our body’s way of preparing us to manage difficult situations. Anxiety can come and go – but for some of us, it can stick around for a long time and end up having a big impact on daily life. When this happens, it might be time to do something about it.

What are the common types of anxiety disorders? Anxiety disorders are some of the most common mental health challenges experienced by young people. People can experience different types of anxiety disorders, but it’s important to know that they can all be treated. These include: generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety, agoraphobia, panic disorder and specific phobias.

Internet based therapy is not new anymore. Many studies have shown great success with online cognitive behaviour therapy. It is convenient, cost effective, confidential and easy to access for busy families. The BRAVE Program is an interactive, online program for the prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent anxiety. The programs are free, and provide ways for children and teenagers to better cope with their worries. There are also programs for parents.
