RE News - Haley Stonham

Who Do You Say I am?

This Year the St Monica’s community is exploring the last part of our St Monica’s Way – ‘So we come to know Jesus.’ Last Term, Fr. Loi and Haley Stonham shared with us who they say Jesus is.

This week, Nicole Jenner, who is one half of our wonderful Year 6 teaching team, shares her thoughts with us about who she says Jesus is.

‘Jesus is and resembles someone and something different to everyone. When asked to explore our relationship with Jesus and who we say he is, I had to pause. It brought me back to when a relative used to ask me as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up. My answers would typically change, determined by my latest craze. But this one required thoughtful and reflective deliberation. Of course, there are superficial and spiritual answers. Guided by Mrs Stonham, we came to understand that Jesus is more than just the Messiah.

Who do I say Jesus is? Words like: Leader, guide, mentor, an example; stable, consistent and unconditional; source of inspiration; companion; and, present within others and the surroundings come to mind. The image above strongly resonates with my understanding of who I say Jesus is.

He is that mentor throughout life regardless of challenges or successes. He is the presence I seek when conflicted, needing guidance or reassurance. Steadfast, he celebrates with you, implores you to live by example and invites you to go on a journey. Most of all, he is that person you message, fully intending to catch up, but something else always distracts.’

Mother’s Day Photos

Last Sunday we celebrated our wonderful, beautiful, kind, creative, supportive, funny and loving mothers. Like many of you, I was woken to hugs in bed and gift giving. I was surprised with a special gift – my son had hand made a tea light holder in woodwork at school. He was so proud of what he had created, knowing it was going to be a gift for his mum. Something I will no doubt cherish for years to come. Then I went out for lunch with my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law (we decided just us this year! Cheeky, I know). The photo with the sunflowers is of me and my mum. This was a celebration for her birthday.

Thanks for your emails with your Mother’s Day photos!

Here is how some of the mums at St Monica’s celebrated.

Have a blessed weekend!
