Ascension Sunday
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.
Passing on the Baton
We might compare the Ascension to the passing of a baton from one runner to another in a relay race.
On this day, just over 2000 years ago, Jesus passed the baton of his work to Peter, James, and John. They, in turn, passed it on to the people who came after them. They, in turn, passed it on to us. And now it is our turn to pass it on to others.
Practically speaking, what does this mean? Does it mean going out and preaching about Jesus, as Peter, James, and John did? Does it mean mounting soapboxes in shopping centres and telling everyone about Jesus?
It could mean this for some of us, but for most of us it means something much more basic than this. It means something much more fundamental. It means living out Jesus’ teaching in our own personal lives.

Sacrament of Eucharist
The next step on the journey to First Eucharist for our students and their families is the Parent and Child night next Thursday at 6pm. The session will be held at St Monica’s in the Year ¾ Hub and classrooms. This is an important part of the program as it gives parents and students time to share stories and investigate the Gospel of the Loaves and Fish.
If you haven’t selected a Mass time for First Communion yet you may do so at the Parent and Child night. This will be the last opportunity for you to change the time or venue.
A reminder that the students do need to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation once more before they make their First Holy Communion. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at St Monica’s each Saturday from 4:30pm-5:30pm and at St Michael’s each Sunday from 4:30pm -5:15pm.
