Value Focus - Perseverance
One of St Monica’s greatest character traits was perseverance. St Augustine (her often wayward son) commented on her commitment to praying for him to change his ways. She did not give up, even in the face of some major challenges. St Monica also cared for and prayed for her husband throughout their marriage life- Patricius was baptised before he died. The power of persistent prayer is amazing. I am sure you all have personal stories of how prayer has impacted your lives.
This term at St Monica’s our theme is ‘Like St Monica… we persevere.’ Share with your children your experiences of how you had to work hard to achieve s
omething- as a child or as an adult. Use this language at home to draw attention to the emotions/feelings of when you succeed and you can always remind your child/ren of Albert Einstein’s famous quote (1879-1955) “ It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.” I think he was channelling St Monica a millennium and a half into the future!
