What We Fight For
A gust of cold and spine chilling wind blows past my young, eager face. There are thousands upon thousands of young, determined and angry souls around me quarrelling about what’s to come. Tall, intimidating buildings line the quiet and cold street, it's almost time. I bow my head, the noise flooding into my ears. My body, small and weak, shaking all over, the thought of what I’m about to do sends billions of nerves down my spine and throughout my body, the cold stabbing again and again at my skin like tiny needles. I think,
“Why am I here? Why am I doing this? Why did I think this was a good idea? I could be at my primary school, learning.”
Then I remember, family, friends, peers, I’m doing this for them. I’m doing this for the new generations to come, for them.
WRITING COMPETITIONS
I will be offering other external writing competitions to students throughout the year. I encourage all enthusiastic writers to enter the St Monica’s Writing Competition. The closing date has been extended to Monday 7June.
Thank you to all the students who have already submitted their entries.
