First Eucharist
Thank you to all our families who joined us for the Parent/Child Formation evening last Thursday. It was so wonderful to see the children sharing what they have been learning about the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. Breaking the bread that they made and reflected on during the retreat day was a highlight for me.
As a parent I am also embarking on this part of my children’s faith journey, and like you all, attended the parent evening last night at my daughter’s school. I will be working through her home booklet with her, sharing my first experience of receiving the Holy Eucharist when I was in Year 2, and talking with her about what it feels like to belong to our Parish Community.
We are off to mass this Sunday morning at 9am for our commitment mass, where we will stand at the front and make a commitment as a family to support Emily. My Son Jay was lucky enough to prepare for and receive First Eucharist last November. We have had many conversations about what it means to be a Eucharistic person. At the moment, for him, it means being able to participate fully in mass with his Parish community.
Family life is one that is busy. This week my husband and I (with the help of a wonderful Nanna) will make time for, basketball, netball training, Eucharist parent session, Rugby Union training, debate club, STEAM Club, dance, hearing appointment, rugby game in Cooma and a netball game. PHEW! We also make time to talk to God and to thank Him for the wonderful opportunities that we have been blessed with. We give back to God what he has given to us.
I encourage you all to continue to support your child’s faith journey in this way. Continue to make time for God or start making more time for God. The sense of belonging that comes with this sacrament is one that our children want and that we, as adults, need.
