First Eucharist – Belonging and Gathering

We often read stories in the Gospel of Jesus taking part in special gatherings with his family and friends. One of these special gatherings was the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother Mary and his disciples had been invited and were at the wedding as well. Weddings are a very special time, where family and friends come together to celebrate love and happiness!

But something extra special happened at this wedding… Jesus performed his first miracle! When the wine was all gone, Mary encouraged Jesus to help the family. Jesus turned the water into wine!

Jesus continued to perform miracles during his ministry. But Jesus also gathered with people who were rejected or not very well-liked. Jesus always showed that everyone belongs when God’s love gathers people together!

During the Sacrament of Eucharist, all people from all walks of life are invited to the table of the Lord! We belong to God’s family and we gather to give thanks and celebrate!
