RE News - Haley Stonham

First Eucharist

eucharist_wk_1.png

This week Year 5 candidates from our Parish will be receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. Receiving communion for the first time is part of the process of Christian Initiation. The Eucharist is the ultimate sacrament of mature commitment because, year in and year out, for the rest of our lives, communion affirms our belonging to Christ and our union with God and the Church.

Last week, at the retreat day, Year 5 listened to the Scripture ‘The Feeding of the 5000’ and had time to reflect upon what the message is for them today as people of the Eucharist. Some of those responses were:

  • To see a need and act on it
  • Give what I have to those in need
  • Don’t leave others out
  • Listen to and trust in God’s plan

What great ways to live our lives! During Lent these are some of the ways that we can ‘Be More’.

Please keep the Year 5 candidates and their families in your prayers this week.

Project Compassion

Each year, as a Catholic School, we support Caritas through Lent by raising money and awareness for Project Compassion. This year the theme for Project Compassion is ‘Be More’. You may have seen the posters up around our school. Your child may have discussed with you that there is a collection box on their class prayer table.

There are great resources that you, as a family, are able to access to learn more about Project Compassion. You might have questions like, ‘Who does the money we donate help?’ ‘Where does the money go?’
