Principal's Message

Dear Parents

Last week the Principals gathered for our Annual Conference with the CE Director, Ross Fox. Friday was a very informative day reviewing the Archdiocesan System goals for the next few years. The two bold goals all schools will be working toward are -
1. Every student is a competent reader
2. High impact teaching practice is visible in every classroom
To achieve these goals the Catalyst Program, informed by the science of learning, will focus on four key initiatives
1. High Impact Teaching Practices
2. K - 2 Literacy
3. Curriculum improvement through high-quality resources
4. Instruction leadership to support the implementation of evidence-based instruction leadership techniques.
The key initiatives will drive professional learning for teachers next year and guide the formation of the 2021 Annual Improvement Plan for each school. Further detail about Catalyst can be found at https://catalyst.cg.catholic.edu.au/.
Respect
Over the last week we have had to remind a number of children of the importance of respect, particularly towards others. This is the time of year when we often see an increase in a lack of patience in games and disrespect towards their peers and even teachers when a decision does not go their way. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher should your child express concerns.

Archbishop's Visit
Thank you to the Youth Ministry Team from St Monica's and the school leaders from St Michael's for making the Archbishop feel so welcome last week when he visited the Parish.

Drink Bottles
There are a lot of students who are coming to school without their drink bottles. As the weather is now starting to warm up it is important that children come to school with a labelled full bottle of water each day. Unfortunately due to a COVID-19 requirement the bubblers are still closed off for use by the children.
Kinder Orientation

While beginning school is a very exciting time for all, it can also be rather intimidating for the little ones. To help the child settle into the routines of school life, our orientation program will include the attendance of all 2021 Kindergarten students at two afternoon sessions on
Wednesday 18 November  (3.30pm – 4.30pm) and
Thursday 19 November  (3.30pm – 4.30pm) 2020.
This is a change to our traditional approach due to COVID-19 restrictions and protocols. Letters have been sent home to the parents involved regarding the afternoon arrangements. Parents will be required to register their attendance on arrival via the Canberra app.
Families Leaving
Over the last two weeks we have received a number of enrolment inquiries. As we have a number of classes at capacity I ask that any families leaving please advise the school as soon as possible.

A Very Big Thank You
A very special thank you to Evelyn David-Hoole and the Community Council for coordinating the special lunch for the teachers on Friday for World Teachers Day. It was very much appreciated and enjoyed by the staff.
Continue to stay safe and healthy.
